Used Machine Commissioning

Independent setup, alignment, validation and handover support for used CNC machinery bought from auction, dealer or private sale — anywhere in the UK.

The handover is where used machine value is made or lost

The auction is the easy part. What happens when the machine arrives at your site is what determines whether it earns its purchase price back or becomes a six-month problem. Used CNC machinery often comes with no commissioning support and no warranty — you take it as you find it, and any setup, alignment or fault-finding is your problem.

Ringstones provides independent commissioning support for used CNC machines: meeting the delivery, overseeing positioning, levelling and services reconnection, restoring parameters, validating accuracy with test cuts, and handing over a machine that’s ready to earn its keep. The aim is to take the technical risk out of the used-machine purchase.

This is a service that genuinely justifies travel. We work with customers across the UK because independent commissioning expertise is more important than where the engineer is based — and the cost of getting it wrong on a major used purchase dwarfs the cost of doing it properly.

Delivery oversight

Attending site when the machine arrives, supervising positioning, checking for transit damage, identifying anything that needs to be raised with the seller before signing off.

Levelling and alignment

Proper machine levelling on the new floor, not just dropping it onto the pads. Alignment checks across all axes. The foundation matters.

Services reconnection

Power, air, coolant and hydraulic services connected and verified. The machine’s service requirements often differ from what was assumed before purchase.

Parameter and configuration restoration

If parameters and tool data came with the machine, they need restoring carefully. If they didn’t, the machine often needs to be set up substantially from scratch.

Validation cuts

Test cuts with measurement confirm the machine is performing to expected accuracy. This is where hidden problems surface — better to find them in commissioning than three weeks into production.

Handover documentation

A written record of what was done, what was found, and what (if anything) the customer should keep an eye on. Useful for insurance, future reference and warranty claims if applicable.
